Aliyha Amani started UPLIFT in the Summer of 2020, which was a time of great turbulence with the global pandemic and civil rights movement that materialized as a result of George Floyd’s death. In the midst of the chaos and civil unrest, she wanted to create something that would positively impact the African American community, so, she created UPLIFT.

As a first-generation African American attorney, she was acutely aware of the fact that achieving success within law school and the legal profession is only made possible with the right support, information, and guidance. Otherwise, the journey can be intimidating, daunting, and perceived as unconquerable. Thankfully, she was fortunate to have found mentors who were able to guide and support her throughout law school and her legal career; however, she understood that many aspiring African American legal professionals do not have the same fortune. To the contrary, many do not have access to the people nor credible information needed to navigate the journey. As such, she created UPLIFT to provide the support that so few people in her community have, in an institutionalized manner.

Through UPLIFT, she and her team are providing critical information and support to the African American community with the goal of (1) demystifying and simplifying an otherwise seemingly mystical profession and (2) increasing the number of African American attorneys.
